Notes for WILLIAM H. GREGORY: There is much confusion as to the identity of William H. Gregory. Family lore recalls two men, one with a surname Gregory and the other with a surname Warner, being taken captive by the Confederates during the heat of a battle in the Civil War. They made a pact with one another, vowing that if one should die, the other would take the name of the deceased. Charles Warner died and Gregory hid Warner's body, pretending to be dead. Rogers, 502 East Fourth St. Friday afternoon at 4:30 after an illness extending over a long period. Mary Ann Villemonte was born in Buffalo, NY July 26, 1834, being 89 years, 9 months, and 6 days old at the time of her death. She was married April 19, 1853 to William Mabbott and to this union six children were born, four dying in infancy. The two sons surviving are Charles W., of Fortina MO and Frank of Warsaw, MO. Mr. Mabbott died while in service during the Civil War. She united in marriage Sept. 22, 1867 to Charles Warner and to this union four children were born. One son and Mr. Warner preceded her in death. The children living from this union are Ernest Warner of Hoisington, Kansas, George Warner of Belleville, Kansas, and Mrs. Florence Rogers of La Junta. These children were all at her bedside when death came. Mrs. Warner came to Colorado about five years ago with her daughter and settled at Granada, moving to La Junta in 1921. Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Burlington, KA. Funeral services will be held from Croan Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 and will be in charge of Rev. C.W. Hawley. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Records show that Mary A. Mabbott received a pension commencing June 5, 1863 of $8, and $2 for each of her two sons as a result of her husband,William's death in the Civil War. In 1920, the US Census showed MaryAnn living with her daughter, Florence in Powers County. Her son, Ernest lived on a neighboring farm. Marriage 1 William H.
