Where did you live while growing up?  I lived in Wichita, Kansas for the first 18 years of my life.  Wichita was a small city when I was younger, but it got very large when World War II started and Boeing Airplane began producing war planes.  We lived in cyclone and tornado country--not my favorite memories.  The storms were intense, causing a lot of anxiety.  We also had dust storms.

What was your house like?  Our house was a very small two bedroom house.  We had no indoor bathroom until we moved to a nicer house when I was 12 years old.  My house on Ida street was at the edge of town.  The street was not paved--just a dirt road.  It was always exciting to have the big road grader come through every spring to make the road smooth and get rid of the "ruts."  We had a vegetable garden that we helped to weed every year.  Our house on Elizabeth Street was nicer--it had a working bathroom.  It was also a few blocks from our church, and a paved street. 

What was your school like?  My school was two blocks away.  It was a very nice, modern school and had a good playground with swings, teeter-totters and bars to swing on.  One highlight of my elementary education was winning a spelling bee.  My junior high school was fun.  I liked English, music and home economics, which included cooking and sewing.  My high school was very large--my graduating class consisted of about 450 students.  I enjoyed working in the library during my study hall period.
