Angel Cookies

1/4 cup butter |
| 1/2 cup shortening |
| 1/2 cup brown sugar |
| 1/2 cup white sugar |
| 1 egg |
| 1 t vanilla |
| 1 t baking soda |
| 1 t cream of tartar |
| 1/2 t salt |
| 2 1/2 cups flour |
| 1/2 cup nuts (optional) |

Cream butter, shortening and sugars together; add egg, vanilla. Add remaining ingredients (except nuts). Mix well. If desired, add nuts. Form into small balls, dipping each ball in milk then sugar and placing on cookie sheet (greased). Bake at 400 degrees F for about 8-10 minutes. |
