Traditional Biscotti

1 cup sugar |
| 1/2 cup butter |
| 3 eggs |
| 2 t vanilla or anise flavoring |
| 2 t anise seed (optional) |
| 1 t baking soda |
| 2 cups flour |
| 1 cup hazelnuts |
|
Combine butter and sugar; add eggs and flavoring. Add remaining ingredients, mixing well. Form into loaves on cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Cool 10-15 minutes. Slice diagonally, turn and bake 15-20 minutes more at 300 degrees. Optional: Dip in melted chocolate. |
