In the 1900 U.S. Pennsylvania census, Elizabeth Bly (Elizabeth Hetzler's daughter) states that her mother was born in Pennsylvania.

Daniel Bley is found in the 1840 U.S. Census records residing in Rockland, Venango County, Pennsylvania (p. 112).

Daniel Bley petitioned for U. S. citizenship naturalization on August 28, 1849. The petition states that he came to the U.S. prior to the age of eighteen years.

In the 1850 U.S. Census, Daniel (it lists his name as "Blythe") is residing with wife, Susanna, and seven children, in Rockland, Venango County, Pennsylvania (visit 110). It lists his occupation as Farming and the value of his real estate as $1000.

The 1860 Pennsylvania census records Daniel as age 47, a farmer, born in Germany, and owning $2000 in Real Estate and $200 in Personal Property. At that time he was married to Susan, age 35. Ten children are residing in the household in Richland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania (p. 480).

The 1870 Pennsylvania census records Daniel as age 57, a farmer, and owning $3000 in Real Estate and $828 in Personal Property. At that time he was married to Susan, age 44. Six children are residing in the household in Richland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania (p. 7).

John was baptized June 8, 1788, by Rev. Michael Enterline at St. Peter's (Fetterhoff's) (Evangelical) Lutheran and German Reformed Christ, Armstrong Valley, Upper Paxton Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania (The second Fetterhoff Church is at 1493 Armstrong Valley Road, two miles northeast of Halifax, in Halifax Township); sponsor: Maria Zimmerman.

John served in the war of 1812, with Captain Rufus M. Cady's Company (as a private) of the New York Militia (Western New York); pension file SC 19415. John took part in the battle of Black Rock, where he was captured by the British, imprisoned in Montreal for three months before being exchanged.

He lived in Genessee County, New York, near Caledonia, circa 1813 - 1818. He came to Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, from Monroe County, New York, circa 1818 - 1820 (Supposedly, he purchased 100 acres in 1818, returned to New York and moved family to Pennsylvania in 1819.); first appeared on Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, tax lists in 1820 (140 acres and two horses); first two deeds recorded on April 28, 1834, for 52.4 acres purchased in 1834 and 100 acres purchased in 1833. He returned to Monroe County, New York, in 1832 to care for his father and step-mother and stayed until 1837 to settle his father's estate.

John purchased an additional 133.6 acres in Rockland Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, in 1844, 25 acres and 167 perches in Rockland Township in 1851 and 100 acres in Richland Township in 1856.

John built a double brick house in 1843; it was still standing in 1919. He owned the first thresher in the vicinity of Rockland Township, Venango County. He was a member of the Lutheran Church; he attended the German Reformed Church at St. Petersburg, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, which was 12 miles from his home in Rockland Township.

John spoke German and never learned to speak English.

In the 1850 U.S. Pennsylvania census, John and Betsy were found residing in Rockland Township, Venango County, PA.

The 1860 U.S. Pennsylvania census records John living in Rockland Township, Venango County, PA. Elizabeth has passed away prior to this census (in 1855).

John is buried in the rear of the Rockland Cemetery, behind the Veterans' Memorial.

Notes for Johan Balthasar Hetzler:

The Hetzler (Hetchler) family generated from Erbach, Wurtenburg, Germany, which is located 15 miles southwest of Ulm (south of Frankfurt and north of Heidelberg). Balthasar arrived in America on September 2, 1749 aboard the ship Albany, entering at the port of Philadelphia, from Rotterdam via Cowes, England, with 284 other immigrants from Erbach. He did not immigrate with his father, may have immigrated with his mother, sisters and younger brother. He is not listed in the grantor index for Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, deeds. He is listed on 1758, 1771 and 1772 Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, tax lists (listed as a laborer on his father-in-law's land in 1758; listed as an inmate (married renter) in 1771 and 1772; not on the 1763 - 1770 tax lists). (1)

He lived in Londonderry Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in 1779 - 1783 (now part of either Lebanon County or Dauphin County). He had 26 acres and 7 perches surveyed in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on September 17, 1767. He was listed on the 1758 to 1781 Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, tax lists. In 1769 he had 50 acres. In 1771 he had 50 acres, one horse and one cow. In 1773 he had 60 acres, one horse and one cow. No Hetzlers were recorded in the 1782 and 1783 tax lists.
