Obituary for Hilda J. Rein:

Hilda J. Rein 88, formerly of 39 Ohio Ave., Lakewood, died at 5:20 a.m. today (Nov. 17, 1983) in Hultquist Care Center on the Ecumenical Campus. She was the widow of Melvin L. Rein, who died Jan. 26, 1976. They observed their 61st wedding anniversary Nov. 27, 1975.

Mr. and Mrs. Rein were co-owners of the Lutheran Book Store.

A Jamestown area resident most of her life, she was born Feb. 1, 1895, in Wetmore, Pa. Mrs. Rein was a member of the First Covenant Church and Jamestown Camp of Gideons Auxiliary.

Surviving are a daughter, Louise J. Ahlgren of Lakewood; a son, Caryl J. Rein of Fort Worth, Texas; 12 grandchildren: Gary Ahlgren of Bedford, Mass.; Martha Smith of Sand Sprints, Okla.; Jane Gesing of Lakewood; Nancy Swanson of Boise, Idaho; Jon Holmlund of Buffalo; Mark Holmlund of Los Angeles, Calif.; Stephen Holmlund of San Francisco, Calif.; Jeffrey Holmlund of Chicago, Ill.; Roger Rein of California; Susan Rouse of Fort Worth, Texas; Shirlee Stout of Dallas, Texas and Richard Rein of Houston, Texas; 16 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Holmlund, who died Sept. 26, 1975.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. James Minturn, pastor of First Covenant Church, and the Rev. Eldon H. Johnson, pastor of Zion Covenant Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials may be made to First Covenant Church or Jamestown Camp of Gideons.

Rein -- The funeral for Hilda J. Rein, 88, formerly of 39 Ohio Ave., Lakewood, who died Nov. 17, 1983, was held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home, Inc. The Rev. James Minturn, pastor of First Covenant Church, and the Rev. Eldon H. Johnson, pastor of Zion Covenant Church, officiated. Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Caryl J. Rein of Fort Worth, Texas; Marian Fuller of Perrysburg; Mr. and Mrs. Borden Tilley and Catherine Poss, Buffalo; Mrs. E. E. Jones of Warren, Pa.

Obituary for Melvin L. Rein:

Melvin L. Rein, 86, of 39 Ohio Ave., Lakewood, died at 8:20 a.m. Monday (Jan. 26, 1976) in WCA Hospital. He was owner of the Lutheran Book Store, 114 N. Main St., retiring in 1973.

Mr. Rein was born in Lake Hill, Pa., Nov. 26, 1889 the son of Charles J. and Hattie Louise Nelson Rein. A former employee of Clark Hardware in Jamestown, he owned the ABC Store in Cambridge Springs, Pa. before returning here in 1944.

Mr. Rein was later employed by the George B. Pitts Co. For many years he was lay minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Sugargrove, Pa., and an active member of Gideons International.

He was a member of the First Covenant Church, where he was active in the Young People's Society. He and his wife, the former Hilda J. Johnson, observed their 61st wedding anniversary November 27, 1975.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Louise J. Ahlgren of Jamestown; a son, Caryl J. Rein of Ft. Worth, Texas; 12 grandchildren, Gary Ahlgren of Bedford, Mass., Mrs. Stanley A. Smith Jr. of Jamestown, Mrs. Charles Gesing of Fortuna, Calif., Mrs. Bruce Swanson of Wheeling, Ill., Jon Holmlund of Amherst College, Amherst, Mass., Mark, Stephen and Jeffrey Holmlund of Lakewood, Roger Rein of Anaheim, Calif., Susan Rouse and Shirlee Stout of Fort. Worth, Texas and Richard Rein of Houston, Texas; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Marie E. Rein of Jamestown and Mrs. E. E. Jones of Warren, Pa.; two brothers, the Rev. Edward R. Rein of North East, Pa. and A. Rheu Rein of Jamestown. Mr. Rein was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Helen Holmlund, who died Sept. 26, 1975, and three brothers, Arthur, Harold, and Gordon Rein.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the First Covenant Church. The Rev. K. Ejnar Rask, pastor, and the Rev. Dwight Nelson, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials may be made to the Jamestown Camp of Gideons or the First Covenant Church.
